Description
In this second book about Whinchat, the chatty little Optimist dinghy, twins Suzie and Rupert are thrilled to be allowed to go camping with their older cousin John and take Whinchat with them. They sail to the beach, swim and cook supper over a camp fire, leaving Whinchat afloat in the creek and tied to a tree, beforespending their first night in a tent.
The next morning, Whinchat has gone! Has she floated, all alone, out to sea - and will the children ever see her again? (For 4 to 7 year olds.)

Illustrated by Alan Padwick
Carole Hughes comes from a family of East Coast sailors. She moved to the Island in 1973 and has worked as a freelance yachting correspondent. Her sailing experience includes a voyage across the Pacific, but some of her happiest memories are of being afloat at Newton with her son. She has also written The Adventures of Chit Chat.
Alan Padwick OBE was born in Hampshire and considered an artistic career. Instead, he spent some 35 years in the Royal Navy, seeing much of the world, mostly in small ships. On retiring, he and his wife cruised England for three years in their narrowboat before settling in Wiltshire to paint and frame pictures. He has illustrated magazine articles and a book on the Chindits.
