Selden Spreader Assembly For Vernier System 285mm Long
- SKU
- SN503-770
Description
A pair of 285mm long Selden vernier spreaders. The vernier system provides a strong, low windage and super-lightweight solution to spreader attachment, combined with highly adjustable spreader angles. The spreader angle is changed via simple clevis pin vernier adjustment, and with its four bracket configurations it can be fitted to all section shapes. With the clevis pin adjuster system, the spreader angle can be set anywhere from 0º to 35º of sweep, with adjustment increments as small as 2º. With its robust 5 mm pins, the mechanism is the strongest on the market.
The new spreader system has the dihedral angle locked to give the optimum rig support.
Fitting & Adjustment of Spreader Ends
Wire size
The spreader end cap incorporates two shroud wire slots to give a tight grip on either 2.5 or 3mm wire. The sizes are identified on the front face of the end cap (See diagram above).
Forward/aft position
The end cap can be rotated so that the shroud can be positioned at either the forward or aft position of the spreader end (see diagram above).
Attachment
To attach the shroud, slacken the end screw, rotate the end clamp if necessary, then insert the shroud and tighten the screw firmly.
Spreader length adjustment
Adjust spreader length by extending or retracting the spreader end from the spreader. Fix you required position with a clevis pin and split ring (fitted with the split ring underneath. The position is usually described by the number of adjustment holes visible (e.g. In the diagram above there are 1 ½ holes visible).
Security
- All clevis pins must be fitted with the flat head on top and be locked with a split ring.
- Tape all split pins, rings and the outboard end of the spreader extrusion. This will reduce chafe on your mainsail and help prevent damage to flapping sails or halyards.
- Self-amalgamating tape is best, but PVC electrical tape can also be used.
