Description
Mirror Dinghy Kit. All wooden parts and fastenings required to build the hull. We also recommend buying a build and coating kit which includes all the fillers, resins and paints that you need to build and paint the boat.
We have 3 build and coating packs for you to choose from;
- Standard Build and Coating Pack - This pack uses all single pack coatings and fillers, with polyester resin. Old mirrors will all of being built with these type of paints and glues. This is the most popular option.
- Epoxy Build and Standard Coating Pack - This upgrades build part of the pack to Epoxy Resin and fillers for building the boat. The coatings remain as single pack paints and varnishes.
- Epoxy Build and Coating Pack - This pack upgrades the coating part of the pack to two pack paints and varnishes. If you intend to use your boat for serious racing then this might be the option for you.
You can add a fittings and sail pack to your kit if you need it;
- 2 Sail and Fittings Pack - This includes all the fittings you need to fit to the boat, the sails foils and rigging for a 2 sail set-up (Main and Jib).
- 3 Sail and Fittings Pack - This includes all the fittings you need to fit to the boat, the sails foils and rigging for a 3 sail set-up (Main, Jib and Spinnaker).
- If you have already have all the fittings from an old boat then you could just build a new hull and transfer everything across.

Hi Dirk, Sorry it's taken a while to get back to you with a transport cost, communication channels have slowed right down with short time working due to the Covid 19. I now have a price of £170 door to door and the lead time to get a kit collated is about a week. The plywood used is a marine grade with a Sapele finish and the hardwood components are a form of mahogony.

Hi Brian Yes we do but don't have a part called Mirror fittings The basic fittings pack has:- Transom rudder fittings Rigging anchor plates Eyes for mainsheet and kicker Mainsheet block and shackle Jib cleats and fairleads Daggerboard elastic I hope that helps Regards David

Hi Nelson I don't know sorry, I can imagine it's quicker than a similar sized inflatable as the Mirror will be stiffer and with it's slight V shaped hull will help it get on the plane quicker and give some directional stability Regards David
Hi Rob I have not performed this job so it's difficult to give you a firm answer, I expect the panels will be difficult to bend as they are when making the boat but this will be harder. We could supply 4mm panels which won't be class legal (if that is a worry for you?) but they will be easier to work with and structurally won't make much if any difference as the panels are not walked on and are bent so will be stiffer because of this. You will need some sort of butt straps at the aft end and then I'd probably shape battens along the side panels and bow to epoxy and screw to I hope that is some help Regards David
Hi Graham I think we could supply a gaff rig, I'd have to check, what I do know is it will make the kit more expensive, we can't promise the gaff is straight or that it will stay straight, this is partly the reason why they are no longer used, the Bermudan rig is much nicer to live and sail with. Our two piece Bermudan mast also stows in the boat like the gaff rig. The forward mast position has been discontinued for about 20 years as it made little difference when sailing, I believe this was due to the improvements to fittings, ropes, sails and the addition of toe straps meant the boat was either easily handled with 2 sails and/or the mast could be raked forward from the aft position to balance the helm. Again we could probably include the parts needed to do this but it would make the kit non standard. Let me know your thoughts Regards David

Hi, We are about to make another batch of Mirror kits this Autumn which should be ready to ship late September. The cost of shipping is likely to be in the region of approaching up to £1000. If you wish to proceed we will need the exact delivery address and then will be able to give a better estimate of the shipping cost. Due to the current world situation the cost of shipping is quite volatile and will only be able to be confirmed nearer to the time of despatch. Many thanks David
Hi, We don't advertise the gaff any more as it is so difficult to get wood that length that is stable enough for that use. The last time we sourced a gaff it was £400 and we would have to re quote if you are interested.
The 2 piece mast is a far improved system where a top section slides and bolts into a lower section and they have a track for the sail. There is no lifting and lowering a heavy spar with the sail, the sail shape is consistent, much less upkeep and still the spars will stow in the boat
