The Flying Fifteen is a two-person hiking racing keelboat sailed worldwide. Originally constructed from wood, it is now primarily made of fibreglass. With an overall length of 20 feet and a waterline length of 15 feet, it gives the boat its name. Weighing 725 lb (329 kg), it carries a class-imposed minimum ballast of 372 lb (169 kg). The Flying Fifteen features a powerful fractional sloop rig, which can be adjusted and controlled by either the crew or the helm. The control lines typically lead into the cockpit, and the boat is commonly equipped with a furling jib and a spinnaker, launched from a chute in front of the forestay.
