The 420 is a two-person Bermudan sloop dinghy, featuring a trapeze for the crew while the helm uses hiking straps. Originally designed as a youth trainer for the larger 470 Olympic class, the 420 shares a similar design with its rounded hull shape, rounded decks, and built-in buoyancy tanks. With a manageable sail area comprising the mainsail, jib, and spinnaker, the 420 is fun to sail even in strong winds and being light weight and built in buoyancy make it a safe and popular training dinghy. As an internationally recognised class, the 420 hosts a World Championship every year. The USA has also created their own versions, the C420 and Z420, though these are not recognised by World Sailing or the international 420 class.
