The 29er is a high performance double handed skiff type dinghy predominantly sailed by youths and is a trainer for the larger Olympic class 49er. With a modern sleek hull shape this lightweight dinghy with full battened sails, self tacking jib plus asymmetric spinnaker launched from an auto extending pole the 29er can often reach speeds exceeding the wind speed by planning up and down wind. The 29er is 4.4 metres long with a trapeze for the crew and the helm sits out using toe straps. An international class sailed at the Youth Sailing World Championships there is also an annual world championships.
